Man United latest transfer updates: the Diogo Dalot interview
It was a quick transfer that Man United made after signing Fred from Shakhtar. Manchester United signed a defender named Dalot from Porto in a five-year contract. The right-back has been hailed by Jose Mourinho as a talented player. Mourinho said: “Diogo is an extremely talented young defender, with all the qualities to become a great player for this club.
The latest defender to be signed by Man United has all the attributes that a fullback need: physicality, tactical intelligence and, technical quality combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.”
Dalot is a 19-year-old player and, after having his first taste as a United player, he was able to sit down to have his first interview with the club.
In Dalot’s first interview at Manchester United, the fullback said that he is excited to sign for the Club and he hopes to accomplish great things there. He also said that he knows that Manchester United is a great club.
Dalot said that he was taught a lot of things coming up through the football system at FC Porto, which is another great club. He said that who he is today as a player was given to him by Porto.
Dalot only started his league debut in February but was given a wealth of experience at the youth level when he won the under-17 European Championship. The full-back said that playing in the under-17 European Championship made him realise that he can do great things and gave him more self-confidence that he can do great things as a player.
The young full-back is the first Portuguese signed player by Jose Mourinho (who is also Portuguese) and, he says he feels very good to be the first Portuguese to be signed and that he hopes to help his new coach and that Jose can also help him to improve his skills and become a better player.
Dalot also said that he doesn’t think age matters in football and that this shows that Jose Mourinho has a lot of faith in him. The new teenage Man United star has a positive outlook because he said that if he works and improves then he can handle the pressures of the premier league. He has described himself as a diligent player and that he thinks he will improve instantly.
When asked if he can play in the left back and right back position, he answered yes, but prefers to play at the right back position and, asserted that if he needs to play in any position, then he will be willing to do so.
Diogo Dalot spoke about his experience playing for Porto against Liverpool at Anfield in his debut 2018 Champions League match, in which he helped his team to keep a clean sheet. He said the experience was unbelievable and, that he is aware that they are arch rivals of Manchester United.
The Portuguese player also stated that he is very excited to play in the premier league, which is one of the biggest leagues in the world. He also stated that his short term and long term goals for United are to help the team to win because it is a winning team. The young full-back also stated that he is looking forward to meeting the Manchester United coaching staff and players so that he can work with them and get some experience playing for the club in the upcoming Manchester United USA Tour 2018.
In a short message to United fans, Dalot said that he will be giving his all for the club and to show that he deserves to wear his United shirt, which is most important.
Fred is the latest Brazilian to sign for Man United
Jose Mourinho has gotten one of his wishes come through- to have Brazilian influence on his team. This dream came through when he signed the Brazilian midfielder, Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk for £52 million. Adding Fred to this Manchester United team may just be a great fit. Fred is the latest Brazilian player to sign for the Red Devils, following players such as Anderson and Rafael. Actually, Fred will become the sixth Brazilian player to play for United in the English Premier League (EPL). The previous Brazilian players before him were: Kleberson, Anderson, Rafael, Fabio and Andreas Pereira.
His full name is Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos, but for simplicity, he is called Fred. After an International Friendly match against Croatia at Anfield stadium in England, Fred was granted permission to be chauffeured away to complete a medical at United’s Carrington training ground. Fred has signed a four-year contract, with an option for an additional season with United.
Jose Mourinho said that he is happy to sign Fred because he sees it necessary to re-stock his midfield since losing Michael Carrick to retirement and an out of contract Marouane Fellaini. Fred is a complete midfielder who can tackle, score, create and run. So, he is expected to be a good asset to Jose Mourinho’s United team.
How will Man United fit Dalot and Fred into its team?
While Dalot may not be in the starting eleven (XI) for United because Ecuador’s Antonio Valencia is the usual go-to man for the right back position, Fred may be in the starting XI for United in the right midfield position. In a 4-3-3 formation, Fred may start the play for the Red Devils with Matic in the middle and Pogba on the left, which may give Pogba more freedom to play the way he wants.
However, if Mourinho decides to play a 4-2-3-1 formation, then Fred may play in a right defensive midfield position alongside Matic, behind players such as Lingard on the right, Pogba in central midfield and Sanchez in left midfield.
Who will be the next player to be signed?
While the Fred and Dalot signings are Man United latest transfer updates, there are other players rumoured to be linked to a transfer to the Red Devils for the 2018/2019 season. These players include Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, Greizzman from Atletico Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
There are other players that United are considering to sign such as Napoli’s midfielder Jorginho and Toby Alderweireld if Tottenham decides to sell him this summer.
There are many star World-Class players out there that seem that they will do very well at United. One such player is Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. But, it is said that Bayern Munich will not release the player unless they are offered at least $200 million!
