Manchester United latest News update- Players sealed EPL second spot

Manchester United Manager

It is done! Manchester United players have sealed second place in the English Premier League (EPL) after a goalless draw against West Ham United on Thursday, May 10, 2018. The draw is also another clean sheet for David de Gea. In a Manchester United news update, Jose Mourinho has been praising his players for sealing the second spot in the EPL on Thursday.

EPL News Update- Manchester United gets the second spot

This EPL has been a quite competitive one, as is the usual case, and a very high scoring one too! The Manchester United players have done well enough to get second place behind the EPL Champions, Manchester City who are now on 97 points. United are 19 points behind on 78 points after 37 matches.

With just 1 match to go, it is doesn’t matter the result of the matches played by Liverpool or Tottenham because whether they win their last match, they cannot surpass Manchester United on points.

Tottenham is on 74 points with only 1 match remaining and if the Spurs should win their last match, they would go on 77 points.

Liverpool is on 72 points with only 1 match remaining and will finish on 75 points if they should win their last match.

The game between Manchester United and West Ham was a drab one as both teams failed to show any real spark in attacking each other’s goals.

Jose Mourinho praises players for securing second

The fight and determination put on by the Manchester United players to finish second in the EPL were praised by manager Jose Mourinho after a draw at West Ham.

The game ended in a stalemate as Luke Shaw came the closest to scoring in that match as his effort in the first half hit the post instead of the inside of the net.

The encounter was a dull or you can even say boring one. But, as the match approached its end, a flare-up occurred between United’s Paul Pogba and West Ham’s Mark Noble, as both players clashed. Mark Noble seemed to be the aggressor in this one as he attacked Pogba by putting his hand in his face- chucking and squeezing him.

West Ham boss, David Moyes hailed his players for not switching off and standing firm as they got a well-deserved point against United.

Jose Mourinho made a wholesale change

Following last week Friday night’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton, Jose Mourinho made some changes to the team. He made eight (8) alterations to the side. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were dropped from the side as both of them played in the starting 11 against Brighton but, neither they were impressive as they rarely created any chances.

Manchester United Forward- Anthony Martial

Marcus Rashford is one of those players that Jose Mourinho have been praising recently for his performance. But, he did not show up in that match against Brighton. However, Marcus Rashford did come on as a substitute for Jesse Lingard in the match against West Ham.

Manchester United Forward- Marcus RashfordAlexis Sanchez returned to the line up to lead the Red Devils but, did not inspire them to victory- although the share of the points was enough to ensure the Red Devils will second to Runaway Champions Manchester City.

In a Manchester United news update after the match, Jose Mourinho said that any team that goes to that kind of match where you need something to get some objective, you have to fight for that. He said the best way to fight for the match was to fight for the win and be safe and that is what the United players did.

Jose Mourinho also said that if after 70 or 75 minutes and you don’t win and you don’t lose you get the point.

The manager also said when you can’t win the title, the best position available is second, and that is what the Manchester United players achieved, so they got the job done.

Jose Mourinho explains the player rotation

Further in the news update is that Jose Mourinho said the player rotation that he was doing was necessary so that he can get minuted into his players. He also explained that he was doing the rotation with an eye on the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 18, 2018.

Jose Mourinho also confirmed that Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial would return to United against Watford on Sunday. He said he tries to organise the team to get the point but opportunities have to be given to people to play. That’s what he did when he allowed Sanchez and Lingard to play against West Ham on Thursday.

The manager also said that Marcus (Rashford) and Anthony (Martial) played on May 4, 2018, against Brighton but Alexis (Sanchez) and Jesse (Lingard) played on Thursday against West Ham. But, Marcus and Anthony will play against Watford on Sunday. This match will make it a Super Sunday in the EPL in the football world because it’s a final EPL match for United and it is at Old Trafford.

The point that United picked up at the London stadium ensured they finished second ahead of Tottenham with a game to spare.

The Manchester United vs West Ham was a good game

Jose Mourinho said he thinks the game was quite good because after 70 or 75 minutes they were not winning or losing but they ended up with a draw. He said the United players took control of the game and even after David Moyes put on Carrol (a very dangerous player for West Ham), the players adapted well because the team was ready by playing with three central defenders.
Now, with the last match to be played at Old Trafford on Sunday against Watford, the Manchester United players will be looking to finish strong and impress/ satisfy, please (or whatever you want to call it) their fans with a win.
